ABOUT US

Raising a Happy Kid
with Technology Exposure

Every kid is unique. Raising a happy and healthy kid is a highly challenging job. They grow up so quickly and their needs at each stage change rapidly. Gaining the knowledge and implementing it at the correct time is hard. Furthermore, the 'correct' way is not the only option. It is especially hard to control what kids see and insist on doing. This is a common problem for all parents.

One of the greatest issues for parents is controlling their kids' interaction with technology. Nowadays, exposure to technology is inevitable, even for very young children. Digital games, animations and cartoons offer kids the most attractive and hard-to-control exposure. Should parents stop their kids from watching cartoons or playing games on the phone? How much does this interaction with technology affect children's development? Can we transfer this 'kids love technology' scenario into something good for them? Or can we at least make sure they are not in any danger?

The answers to these questions are not and will not be clear. However, one thing we can do during their early years is clear: we can monitor what our kids are exposed to. The TAK Index team is here to help us choose what our kids are exposed to.

TAK Index
for Parents

Every parent has a different level of sensitivity to different issues. We are not here to judge your parental beliefs. We play the app and provide the information to you. Then, you decide what to play with your kid. The symbols you see next to the apps are there to provide information to you. The score is carefully calculated based on technological aspects (e.g. does the game have disturbing flashes or loud noise); cognitive abilities (e.g. does the game have features required to improve kids' problem-solving ability?); and personal growth aspects. Apps are categorised into different age groups. Use this information to make the best decision for your kid!

TAK Index
A Guide for Kids' Apps

TAK Index is a kids' (1-16 years old) games scoring system. We evaluate kids’ games professionally and provide information to parents as well as game developers. A TAK index of 10 means that the game is well designed in every ethical, sociological and developmental aspect with clear motives to improve children’s cognitive abilities.

The TAK Index for each game is calculated after a detailed evaluation of at least five professional reviewers. These reviewers are selected from amongst teachers, psychologists, doctors and social workers who have at least five years of experience with kids. They are assigned to games randomly and evaluate the games independently based on our review protocol. Our review protocol is designed to assess objectively:

Ethical aspects of the app
Technological aspects of the app
Developmental aspects of the app

Ethical aspects are illustrated by their own symbol to guide you. The index, on the other hand, is calculated based on the technological and developmental aspects. Our review protocol will be reviewed by our advisory board team of academics annually to keep track of the recent academic work.

TAK Index
for Game Developers

Developing a game is an entirely different expertise than raising a kid. However, nowadays, kids are growing up with these games. So, it is extra essential to assess games before their release. We are happy to cooperate with you to make your games better. Let's make kids' games more fun and informative!

The kids of today are our future. As the TAK Index Team, we want to improve the quality of the games our kids are exposed to and help shape a better future for us all.
